I am a recent graduate of the University of Redlands. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing, graduating cum laude and with honors. I also have a minor degree in psychology. I am the first generation in a Laotian family to be born in America, so I am very familiar with translating English messages to those who have a hard time understanding. I began tutoring English in 2016, starting with three Cambodian immigrant students to help them get adjusted to their new life in America. Once I went off to college, I started voluntarily tutoring the international Japanese students at my university, helping them prepare for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test. From then, I went on to working at the university's Academic Success Center, tutoring my peers in college algebra and beginner's Mandarin Chinese, and participating in a free tutoring program for local elementary to high school children in our community.
I have been writing both academically and leisurely my entire life and it is one of my biggest passions. I believe that writing is an important skill to have. It's used throughout many aspects of our lives, whether it be communicating with employers or sending a letter to a loved one. I also believe it's a great way to express one's self. With writing, you are able to convey all feelings and even transport yourself and others into another world. I would like to help students find that creativity inside them and create the worlds they've always dreamed of.
