I am a graduate of Arizona State University where I received my Masters of Education. In my 30-year teaching experience I have served as a classroom teacher, resource teacher, and reading specialist. While I have taught all elementary subjects in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade, I feel that my greatest accomplishments have been while teaching reading skills and strategies to English language learners and other struggling readers. I am most passionate about teaching students to decode through the use of phonics and structural analysis, as I have witnessed many students go from struggling to independent readers. I pride myself in getting to know my students well and designing the lesson activities that most benefit them. I have earned a Reading Specialist Endorsement through additional coursework which allows me to diagnose and remedy reading difficulties. I believe that reading unlocks the doors to learning and opens up a world of possibilities for all children.

In my spare time I enjoy hiking and biking, which takes me to many of the Mountain Parks here in the valley. During the summers I will often escape the heat with a scenic drive to Flagstaff or Sedona. I can also be found on a hot afternoon curled up on the couch reading a good crime drama or murder mystery.
