I'm a bestselling novelist and the author of seven books. I did my degrees at the University of Chicago (AB, Phi Beta Kappa) and the Johns Hopkins University (MA, PhD). I love being with students because they usually teach me as much as I teach them. I always want to know about their lives, their challenges, and how they see the world. The best learning occurs when there's a connection between the two of us. We'll both have fun when we learn to laugh together. My subjects are history, literature and creative writing. I have experience teaching 18-22 year-olds and adult learners in a college setting, but I'm happy in a variety of other places, as well as with other age groups.
Education & Certification
Undergraduate Degree: UChicago - Bachelor in Arts, History
Graduate Degree: Johns Hopkins - Doctor of Philosophy, History
I like to swim, hike and go out to dinner with my friends. I like clothes and I like cooking. I like the symphony, the ballet, classical music and jazz. But I'm also curious to know what people younger than me are listening to now. I'm always looking on Spotify to figure out the favorite music of other generations. I love libraries and travel. I try to get to London at least once a year. I also want to hear where other people have been that they loved so I can plan my next trip. I like reading and watching films, especially vintage, European, British, offbeat, lgbtq, and indie movies.
