Hello students and families! My name is Ms. Lopez and I'd love to be your Varsity Tutor. Here is a little introduction to my background and interests before we start: I'm a DC native from a family of eight. After studying media arts at Virginia Commonwealth University, I decided that I wanted to teach art. To build experience working with children, I tutored K-3 students for an Americorps program called The Literacy Lab. I led one-on-one literacy interventions at an underserved DC public school, collecting data on a weekly basis and collaborating with coaches to adjust my approach for each student. Finding ways to individualize my students' academic and emotional needs and seeing my students' progress was really gratifying and a newfound passion I wanted to follow. The COVID-19 pandemic challenged me to find ways to reach my students and led me to continue tutoring them for another year. It was really fun to be able to use my background in technology and creative skills for virtual tutoring. I'm excited to see how I can adapt my own interventions and to get to know you!
Education & Certification
Undergraduate Degree: Virginia Commonwealth University - Bachelor of Fine Arts, Multimedia
I love traveling and being in nature. You get to see how big the world is and get to know yourself better. I'm an art history enthusiast so I love looking at art and architecture and learning how and why it was made. When I'm not taking a walk or getting take out from a new restaurant, I like to watch movies and play video games.
