I am passionate about helping students because I believe that there's no such thing as a natural born good student. To me, academic achievement means patience, accepting that you can make mistakes, and practice, practice, practice of whatever skill or content you are trying to master.
I have worked with students for 7 years as classroom aid, intervention specialist, full time teacher, and private tutor. I have taught SPED and Gen Ed classrooms. I was introduced to teaching through Americorps, volunteering and working for students and schools in underserved communities. This means I also have a firm personal conviction that every student, no matter their background, zip code, race, or gender identity can achieve highly.
I received my BA in Political Science and International Studies (minoring in French Language and Russian History) in 2013 from Baldwin Wallace University. Currently, I am working on my MA in Comparative & Regional Studies at American University in Washington, DC where I specialize in the European Union, Eastern Europe, Russia, and Democracy.
My favorite subjects to tutor are middle school Mathematics, Social Studies, high school and AP level History (US, World, European, etc), high school and AP level Government and Politics (US, comparative, & International), and especially writing which I believe is one of the most important tools in a student's tool belt.
My tutoring style is one of compassion and patience. I do my best to learn each student's best learning style and accommodate them where they are. Due to my training as an intervention specialist, I also have experience (and excel in) pinpointing student needs and remediating them quickly to get to the level where they need to be for academic success.
Outside of academia I am an aspiring fiber artist and I hope one day to become a US Foreign Service Officer for the Department of State.
