Two years ago, I actively tutored kids, as I was a member of the National Honors Society at my high school. During my first year of college, I was still new to adjusting to my hectic schedule, but as I am a sophomore in college now, and very well used to how college works, I want to get back in to tutoring. I thought finding a position was going to be unlikely considering the pandemic, but fortunately, I came across Varsity Tutors and was very excited to potentially obtain a virtual tutoring position. Having the opportunity to help others to make progress and achieve success is something I enjoy doing because seeing how I can make the slightest impact on someone's life makes me want to keep doing it. In the past I have only tutored in various math subjects, so I would prefer to continue tutoring in math subjects. Tutoring in the past has been a great learning experience for me because I had to approach students in different ways, as their learning methods varied. I believe this has made me a stronger tutor now, and am excited to use these new techniques and strategies for my new students. I have graduated high school and am currently in my second year in college. I have completed math up until calculus 3. Math has always been my favorite subject because the problems have one singular answer, but there are many methods to use to get that answer. In other subjects, answers can vary based on interpretation. I would say my teaching philosophy/motto would be that tutoring is like teamwork. The student and tutor have to work together to achieve success. This requires the same positive mindset and attitude, if one of the teammates lacks, the other can't carry the team by themself.

Hobbies

Outside of academics, I really enjoy dancing, working out, and singing. I have been dancing since I was 3 years old, and am currently on Michigan State University's competitive dance team. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, our season is on a pause, as we cannot travel to compete. In middle school, I began to actively participate in sports and joined my school's cross country and track and field, team. I continued these sports throughout high school, and even made the varsity teams and obtained a captain position. This slightly relates to tutoring, and my philosophy towards tutoring because I learned that every athlete is different and learning everyone's strengths and weaknesses would let me focus on how to maximize the best outcome. Similarly, with tutoring, I will need to identify my student's strengths and weaknesses to maximize success. As I no longer run cross country and track, I channel my inner athlete with working out. It has become one of my favorite pastimes to release stress. Over quarantine, since I wasn't able to dance as much, I began singing and found it to become one of my favorite hobbies.
