While I've always loved science and technology, I was first introduced to the creative world of programming through Girls Who Code in 2014 while enrolled in their Summer Immersion Program. After spending months learning Python, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS, my team designed and developed an app called PocketPoll. I returned the following year as a teaching assistant for the next round of students; since then, I've gained more than five years of tutoring experience in a wide array of subjects. Earlier this year, I graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and am currently developing a professional portfolio with hopes of entering the field of renewable energy. I'm thrilled to be able to continue pursuing my love for teaching through the Varsity Tutors platform! In the past I've taught for Engineering For Kids, Code Explorers, Sprouting STEM, and even Harris Art Studio. Beyond STEM and the arts, I've also tutored in math, reading and other subjects while acting as a full time teaching assistant at a local charter school. In college, I've also assisted fellow students with databases, data structures, artificial intelligence, web design, and more.

As someone with ADHD, I find that traditional classroom settings don't have the best interests of people like myself in mind. As a result, I prefer to establish a safe and relaxing environment where a student feels free to be creative and use their imagination to take on any subject of their choosing. In lieu of using strict grading protocols or rubrics that are set in stone, I prefer to place full emphasis on making sure a student is learning the material in whichever way works best for them, at whatever pace works best for them. In this way, I know I'm able to pass knowledge along to my students without compromising the measuring of progress or enforcement of discipline.
