I have more than seven years of professional teaching experience and teaching has always been my passion. I am a native Japanese speaker, and I hold a bachelor's degree in Education and a Certification in Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language as well as a Teaching Certification for High School in Civics and for Junior High School in Social Studies.
I started my career as a teacher with a middle school in Japan. I taught Japanese and world history, geography and civics at the time. With my curiosity growing about other countries and culture, I set off to Canada, then moved to Australia, which has changed my life ever since. Meeting new people, acquiring a new language, discovering and understanding different culture enriched my life. Therefore, I decided to pursue my career as a Japanese teacher in order to share the same passion as many students as possible.
After moving to the United States, I have had the opportunity to teach a range of students from as young as 4 years old children to adult learners both one-to-one tutoring and in groups. I have done a variety of teaching activities with students including dancing, singing a song, playing a game, watching a video, discussing about topics, reading books, role play, and it is always fun. I work differently with each student according to their goals and interests as well as strengths and weaknesses because my goals are to help students achieve their goals as well as stay motivated and develop their curiosity in Japanese language and culture.
Japanese has some words associated with men or women, super-polite honorific/modest form, a lot of onomatopoeia and indirect, which makes it challenging to master. I hope I can help you to gain better understanding of and self-confidence in Japanese!
