I'm a scholar and enthusiast of language. My English Language Arts classes will make you a more confident communicator. My philosophy of teaching centers around developing and strengthening your individual view of the world. Every lesson I create aims to embolden and empower your spoken and written voice. I have a B.A. in English Literature from Western Washington University and a Masters in Teaching in Secondary English from Western Governors University. Whether I'm giving 1 on 1 instruction or leading a class of 30, I love helping students make gains in their reading comprehension and writing confidence. I've taught English as a Second Language in Laos, South Korea, and Peru. I've spent the last two years substitute teaching in a variety of settings and subjects. These experiences have taught me to look at writing and literacy with an inclusive and expansive lense.
In one of my classes, you can expect an open, safe space to explore your own ideas for writing and engage in lively discussion with others. If you're a middle schooler looking to master the short essay, a high schooler looking to ace a research paper, or just someone looking to boost your writing fluency, count on me to be an well-prepared, meticulous, enthusiastic supporter of your work. My absolute favorite classes involve deep discussion of book themes and ideas. Outside of teaching and tutoring, I've been spending my time mountain biking and playing soccer. I'm also an avid strategy board game player and cook/baker. During Covid-19, I've been perfecting my own bagel recipe.
Education & Certification
Undergraduate Degree: Western Washington University - Bachelor in Arts, English
Graduate Degree: Western Governors University - Masters in Education, Language Arts Teacher Education
I'm currently spending a lot of time mountain biking. It's a sport that involves risk management and confidence in your body. I've played soccer all my life, but COVID has limited opportunities to play. I'm looking forward to getting back on the field. I am a passionate cook and baker! Indian food and bagels are my current favorites. I love the depth of flavor and spice in Indian cuisine. Bagels are fairly simple, but take real attention to detail in order to perfect. I currently own 56 house plants. I love giving friends plant propagations (plant babies). Overall, I'm a huge believer in the power of plants, indoors and outdoors.
