I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Botany, a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science, and a Master of Science degree in Public Health (MPH). I graduated with my MPH degree in 2002 from Texas A&M University in College Station. During my MPH, I conducted research on evaluating the non dietary effects of pesticides by children in an agricultural community along the U.S./Mexico border. The work we conducted was published in the "Journal of Exposure Analysis and Environmental Epidemiology". In addition, I also received the departmental achievement award for my hard work and dedication.
After graduation, I have worked several years as an environmental consultant, primarily conducting human health and ecological risk assessments. This work requires one to be very through in their technical areas, good mathematical skills, and very detail oriented.
I took a break from consulting to be with my family. During that time, I volunteered at my children's school teaching them about environmental science. I am also very artistic and creative and took after school art/craft classes to teach kids on how to convert recyclable material into something wonderful that could be used. We made gift bags, paper bead jewelry, pencil holders, holiday ornaments, etc. Many parents and kids loved these craft and still continue to ask me to conduct these classes.
I have also taught as a substitute teacher and truly enjoy being with kids. I am a very patient person and I am very passionate about teaching. My principal of teaching is to ensure kids understand the fundamentals/basics of the material that is being presented to them. I will strive to ensure kids feel comfortable and confident in solving any problem. It is important to make sure you boost their moral confidence, because only when they feel confident, is when they will enjoy learning and excel.
