I have been dedicated to the education world for over a decade. I spent 8 years teaching English and Photojournalism in a public high school followed by 3 years of Writing and ENL (also known as ESL) in a charter middle school. Between the two, I also taught English to elementary girls in El Salvador for 6 months as a volunteer.
This year I have decided to leave the classroom to care for my son who was born in January 2020. However, I am extremely passionate about education, particularly ELA, reading, ENL/ESL, and Spanish so I decided to sign up as a tutor and continue to guide students to their best future. I am an avid reader and enjoy reading with my son.
My husband is Salvadoran and we speak Spanish in our home. I am adamant that my son be both bilingual and bi-literate. I think knowing a second language in today's world is an incredible asset. Additionally, I feel strongly about helping students who are developing their English skills as their second or third language. With my many years of teaching experience I have a plethora of techniques to use to help all students learn.
I am super excited to work with your child and continue to do my part in educating America's future.
Education & Certification
Undergraduate Degree: Siena Heights University - Bachelor of Fine Arts, English
-Reading, reading, reading! I've always loved reading myself, but now that I have a son, I am finding so much pleasure in children's books as well! -Traveling! I have always loved traveling and have spent many vacations exploring Central America. I love learning about different cultures and meeting kind people around the world. -Education: I am passionate about education. I was a teacher for 11 years and only left the classroom to care for my new son. I have dedicated much of my life to education, including volunteer teaching in El Salvador. I continue to promote education through literature and often have fundraisers geared towards books for schools and underprivileged communities. Most recently I held a book drive for a Women's Homeless Shelter and was able to donate over 100 books to help homeless children learn from "home" during the pandemic.
