I was educated in Colorado and ultimately transferred to New Mexico State University in Las Cruces where I graduated in 2003 with my Bachelors in Accountancy. I was working as a Financial Advisor with Smith Barney as I graduated with my MBA in Management from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas. I began my career in public accounting in 2005 in Roswell, New Mexico where both of my daughters were born. I have worked for CPA firms since ranging from 120 employees to 12 employees. Annual revenues of these firms ranged from $12 million to $1.8 million. I am currently moving as I accepted a position as a Senior Tax Manager and one of four tax return signers at a firm on the east coast.
I believe that there is no substitute for hard work and time at the desk! If you want to be a CPA then strive for the top 10%. We do this by putting in the time and preparing for all aspects of the exam as well as the career! I am 100% certain that the cream of the crop works in public accounting period, point blank, end of story. If you have aspirations to be in the private/corporate accounting world then spend 3 to 5 years in a firm and transfer out and watch what positions are open to senior accountants/managers when you apply. The foundation created in public is paramount and the pay you will command is quite reasonable......please please please never give up and you will pass this exam, trust me folks ya'll got this.
