I developed my love of teaching and creating with children in high school when I worked with atypical and special needs children in schools and camps. Therefore, I decided to major in the education of educable mentally handicapped at The Ohio State University. I taught learning disabled and educable mentally handicapped students in resource rooms and self -contained classrooms. I earned my Master's degree from Xavier University in reading. After raising my children, I volunteered as a teacher's aide in second grade in English and Judaic studies. Last year I was a part time teacher's aide in kindergarten and substituted in grades preK-5.
Reading and writing are my favorite subjects to teach/tutor. I love that second graders are expanding the world around them , so I use their curiosity as a springboard for my teaching. For instance, I use short selections about the origins of everyday items for reading and writing activities.
By sharing my experiences and bringing the real world into the classroom, I hope to spark and motivate my students.
