I strive to help all learners achieve their maximum potential in school and beyond! I am currently enrolled in a masters program at Simmons University in Boston, MA, to earn my MAT and license in elementary and special education. I also just graduated from Simmons with a BA in history and my concentration was world history.
I fell in love with teaching while working as a camp counselor in high school. I realized that through kindness, patience, and creativity, I could build strong relationships with young people and help them achieve their academic, social, and personal goals.
Throughout college, I developed my passion and expertise through service with AmeriCorps. I served with Jumpstart as both a corp member and a team leader, working with other dedicated college students to implement social-emotional and early literacy curriculum in preschool classrooms. I also worked a substitute teacher, allowing me to gain valuable experience with elementary learning principles, so I can confidently utilize a variety of teaching methods across multiple subjects. By the end of my undergraduate career, I had received the Judith Botelho Commitment Award, an award honoring students dedicated to community service, the Kathleen Dunn Award from the Simmons University Education Department, and Membership in Phi Alpha Theta, the National History Honor Society. Additionally, I graduated summa cum laude.
I've been tutoring a second grader this past spring, and I'm humbled and excited by the growth she's shown these past few months. Together, we are reading "Judy Moody Saves the World" and working on math. She has strengthened her skills in the area of reading comprehension and is able to answer questions about the story automatically! Additionally, she is becoming well-versed in fractions and recognizes the relationship between the denominator and the size of the fraction. Aside from math and reading, I am also interested in tutoring students in writing, science, and social studies, as well as European History for older students!
My favorite subject is definitely reading and I want all students to feel that reading for pleasure is an accessible activity for them. I love to read, myself, and my favorite genre is historical fiction! Aside from reading, you can find me watching football (Go Patriots!), doing Yoga, or performing in a play!
I believe all students can succeed as long as their educators are invested in them, and I take the responsibility of being a student's teacher very seriously. Furthermore, I believe it is my duty to plan and adapt lessons that meet a student's academic, personal, and cultural needs. I look forward to meeting new students and working with them to discover how I can best support them in their academic endeavors!
