I am a junior neuroscience major at the University of Pittsburgh. For the last 15 years, I've been lucky enough to have been trained and guided by a variety of teachers and professors that have also acted as mentors in my development. When I was a younger child, I struggled to focus in school and my academic experience was complacent. However, this changed through the years. In fifth grade, I learned about the power of imagination and creativity through free-reading assignments. In eighth grade, I learned how algebra resembled a fun logical puzzle. In high school, I discovered the application of math to the real world through calculus and physics. I am forever thankful for all the teachers that inspired my interest and passion in learning; my academic experience has been very transformative in my life. Now, I am inspired to translate everything I learned and experienced as a student to others as a tutor.

Although I've become proficient in learning and teaching reading and language arts, my favorite subjects to tutor are in the math and sciences. I have developed my skills in explaining and teaching others by helping various peers through the years. Recently, I also have experience helping students pass the GED and HiSET high school level certification process. In my opinion, the most important part in learning is the thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts of a subject. Generally, each question or problem can be broken down to specific concepts. The ability to actively understand and visualize such concepts and then identify the concepts in a problem is vital for student's success. Through this method, any problem is solvable.

Hobbies

In my free time, I am a huge sports fan. My favorite time of the year is in march during the peak of college basketball. I've played basketball my whole life, and I played in high school all four years. Besides that, I enjoy playing and listening to a variety of music. When I was younger, I briefly took piano lessons. In high school and onward, I rekindled my interests in music during my free time as I taught myself how to play my favorite songs on the ukulele and pinao.
