I currently serve as a trans-oceanic business jet captain, but started at Utah Valley University, where I received my Bachelor of Science with focus on Aviation - Professional Pilot. I received my Private Pilot License at the age of 17, and became an airline pilot at the age of 22. I have spent 10 of the last 13 years of my professional pilot career as a captain, which have included professional training and management responsibilities. These responsibilities have included chief pilot, check airman, ground school instructor, and flight department manager in airline, corporate, charter, and cargo flight operations. I am passionate about teaching pilots and have taught pilots of all experience levels, from student to professional.
Passing written tests and checkrides are a recurring reality for the professional pilot. Strategies and techniques are very helpful, but must be coupled with thorough knowledge and understanding. The FAA cares more about a pilot being able to apply their knowledge in real-life scenarios, and this has become very clear in the evolution of their examinations. In addition to preparing for examinations, I enjoy teaching throughout the flight school experience. Student pilots have very limited time with their instructors, so additional learning and solidifying between lessons can greatly help students perform better and advance more quickly. Imparting of my knowledge and real-world experiences (where beneficial) has proven immensely helpful to the pilots I have been fortunate enough to teach and fly with. In my spare time, I enjoy going on hikes and other outdoor activities with my wife and children, as well as playing basketball and tennis.
