My name is Marjorie Cadestin, and I am currently a 3rd-year medical student attending
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 2016, I received my Bachelor of Science in
Public Health from Rutgers State University-New Brunswick. Furthermore, in 2018, I received
my Master's in Biomedical Sciences from Rowan University Graduate School of Biomedical
Sciences, where I was awarded the Dean's Outstanding Academic Achievement after graduating
with a 4.0 GPA. I am also a current member of the Sigma Sigma Phi Honors Osteopathic
I am passionate about helping students because I understand exactly what it is like to be a
student. I understand that at times it can be frustrating and daunting. When I first started medical
school, I had many concerns. I heard the countless rumors about the difficulties I would soon
face as a student physician. However, with hard work, diligence, and focus, I was able to
succeed. I found ways to make studying fun by incorporating different studying strategies,
including rapid-fire questions, study groups, and even some singing and rhymes. I want to
become a tutor, because I would like to give back and share my experience with students and
help them learn in a fun and innovative way.
I held a number of teaching and tutoring positions in the past. In graduate school, I
tutored Biochemistry and Microbiology. While tutoring, I created a learning environment that
was both receptive and challenging. Also, I helped students create a study plan. During the
summer of 2019, I taught a summer course at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
called TISSUE, Teaching Introductory Study Skills Utilizing Experience. Facilitating and
conducting discussions, I acclimated the first-year medical students to the pace and culture of
medical school and taught introductory Anatomy and Physiology. Lastly, I helped prepare
students to work with cadavers as part of the Structural Principles of Osteopathic Medicine.
Outside of academia, I love to be involved! I previously served as the President of the Public
Health Club, the Recording Secretary of the Student National Medical Association, a mentor
with Health Professional Recruitment and Exposure Program, and a PCOM Student
Ambassador. I am also very passionate about fitness and health. I previously ran a 10-mile run in
Philadelphia, PA, and I plan on running my first half marathon this year! Fun fact about me, I
played piano for 17 years and my favorite piece in Chopin Op. 48 No.1.
