My name is Melinda Franz and I am a reading specialist. I have taught for over 30 years and tutored over the past several years. I have enjoyed working with all levels of students in grades K-8. My passion has been to help the struggling student succeed in the classroom.
I received degrees from Ball State University and the University of Arizona with certification to teach elementary education. I also acquired specializations in reading and special education. My experience includes teaching language arts in grades K-8. I taught over 20 years in Title I reading providing 1:1 and small group instruction to students who experienced reading or language difficulties in in the classroom. During this time I used the Orten-Gillingham system of teaching reading which has proven effective and used widely in working with students who exhibit characteristics of dyslexia.
As a reading specialist I am able to identify individual strengths, weaknesses, and current levels of performance. I am happy to work closely with parents in devising a plan tailored specifically for their child to meet his/her individual needs.
I enjoy working with children and sharing in their successes. Each student is special and it is my desire to help each one shine.
