Hi! I am a new tutor excited to meet you! I am currently a senior chemistry major and work for my college as a private tutor, group tutor, and teaching assistant for organic chemistry and general chemistry labs. I have tutored general chemistry for almost 3 years and organic chemistry for almost 2 years.

I also am part of a program that teaches young children in the Albany City School District science through games. My class is Chemistry In Minecraft where I explore basic chemistry principles with 4th and 9th graders in the educational minecraft worlds.

I primarily tutor students in organic and general chemistry but have tutored math in the past. I originally was a pre-med student and then I took organic chemistry and fell in love with it!

Currently I do research in synthesis of organic/inorganic sensors and computational physical organic chemistry. In the past I have also done research with the physics department.

Catherine’s Qualifications

Education & Certification

Undergraduate Degree: Siena College - Bachelor of Science, Chemistry

Research is what I am very passionate about. I am fortunate to be at a college that is only undergrad so I have had extensive experience. I specifically enjoy organic chemistry research so here are some of my current and past experiences: 1. Synthesis of Liquid Crystal Sensors - Fall 2018 - Present - I work on the design and synthesis of liquid crystal sensors for volatile organic compounds. 2. Computational Chemistry for Cyclopentanes - Summer 2020 - Present - I perform DFT computations on Gaussian to determine strain energy for cyclohexane conformers 3. Building a Table-Top NMR - Summer 2019 - I worked in the physics department to build a functional and affordable (under 300$) NMR. It was modeled after a paper by Carl A. Michal using arduino microcontroller 4. Determination of the Chemical Structure of Lucibufagins in the Winter Firefly - Spring 2020 - I learned and used 2D and 1D NMR to determine the help determine the complicated structure
