Hello! I am a high school English teacher with a B.A. in English Education and two years of classroom experience. I have been tutoring and working with students since 2016. I studied at Illinois State University, and did my student teaching at Dwight Township High School. I then taught for two years at LaSalle Township High School. I worked as an after school tutor during this time as well. I absolutely love working with students, but am taking a short break from teaching to stay home with my own kids. Tutoring allows me to do what I love at the same time, and continue my passion of sharing language and communication life skills with students. I have grown up in this area, and enjoy riding horses and playing flute in my spare time.
I have an extensive background in writing and literature both throughout my college experience and teaching career. I have taught students from 9th through 12th grade in the classroom, and tutored students from 6th grade to the college post-graduate level. Classes I have taught include speech, Shakespeare, creative writing, SAT prep for the reading and writing sections, and American Literature. I have assisted with teaching Advanced Placement classes. My tutoring experience is based in writing and grammar. I also have experience working on reading comprehension and preparing students for the SAT. My students have come from diverse backgrounds, from having Spanish as a first language and more. I have worked with English Language Learners at many different levels and in many age groups to build their language proficiency, as a tutor and as a conversation partner for exchange students in college. I have enjoyed working with and learning from a wide variety of students on speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. I also work with my students on organization and study skills if needed. I am the author or the adventure novel No Matter What and a contributor to the anthology Illinois' Best Emerging Poets.
I meet students where they are and help them to find their own way to build important skills. In tutoring, I like to take a student lead approach in which I guide and facilitate them into finding their own voice and study methods that work best for them. I have assisted students with many tasks, such as test prep, identifying and building on lacking grammar skills, improving writing and reading proficiency, college entrance essays, proofreading and editing writing in many genres, and more.
