I am in my first semester as a graduate student at University of Northern Colorado, studying education and working towards a teaching license. This May, I graduated as an honors student at Colorado State University with a major in Physics, minor in Math and Spanish, and coursework in education. I have tutored for eight years now in math of all levels, science, ACT/SAT preparation, English as a second language, and Spanish. As an assistant teacher, I also taught algebra 1 in a local classroom. I have even taught physics and calculus in Spanish while living in Ecuador and again in Spain! My priority is science, math, and languages, and I am driven to educate students in all of these with the belief that any student can expand their knowledge and understanding, and I am convinced I can show them something new and exciting!

As a tutor, I am confident in my ability to encourage students to challenge themselves and in my positive energy that I have seen encourage students even after making mistakes. In my eight years tutoring, the reason I continue tutoring and teaching is the effort and desire students have to understand material, and the ability to encourage them and maintain an enthusiasm that will allow them to explore content freely and take risks. My process with a new client is an initial session spent on assessing prior knowledge a student may have, determining goals for future sessions, learn about their learning style, and begin understanding where potential gaps in comprehension may exist. When a solid foundation has been laid, approaching material begins with prior knowledge, teaching new material while understanding this may be the first time the student has seen it, discuss the content with the student to gauge their comprehension and allow for questions, then work through examples and applications, which students are encouraged to think of as well.
