I have two great passions that come together as a chemistry tutor. The passion for chemistry and the passion to help people. I have several years of teaching undergraduate general and organic chemistry classes to college students as a Teaching Assistant. I have also held one-on-one tutoring sessions with both high school and college students. I discovered from these experiences that I am driven by a passion to help students get rid of the myth that chemistry is difficult.
Chemistry has always been my favorite subject. Since my junior year in high school, the 'light bulb' went on in my mind where chemistry was concerned and from then on, I have always enjoyed chemistry. I am therefore a holder of three degrees all of which are in Chemistry; Bachelor of Science, Chemistry Major and Master of Science in Environmental Chemistry (Nairobi University) and a Ph. D in Organic Chemistry from NC State University. I have also worked as a Medicinal Chemist in research and development for more than ten years.
After years of being involved in research, I am back to tutoring because I love to help people. As a tutor it's my ambition is to share the knowledge I have, breaking it down to the level needed for my student to understand. Some of my most pleasurable moments in my teaching/ tutoring experience are those times when I see a student suddenly 'get it'. That motivates to want to help more students. Teaching chemistry and tutoring in general, is therefore very delightful to me. Outside of chemistry, I enjoy singing, reading, swimming and spending time with family.
