I am a graduate of University of California, Berkeley ('91) in political science and Northwestern University ('00) in journalism.
I have experience teaching writing and advanced argumentative writing at the junior college level. My favorite subject to tutor is anything having to do with reading, analysis and writing; however, I enjoy all subjects.
I am an involved parent in Boy Scouts (now Scouts BSA); I love camping, hiking, trekking, running and tennis. My parents are from Europe and believed strongly in big family dinners: I really enjoy cooking those and sharing those with family and assorted friends.
Teaching philosophy: I strive to unselfishly understand my students and quickly get to the heart of their learning goals and obstacles. I teach as an equal and a coach. My goal is to empower my students to become learners and observers, becoming the best possible versions of their academic selves.
I believe learning is not just "knowledge" but the practice of habits like organization, discipline, persistence and positivity. I strive to impart those values as well as the academic information.
