I am a 2nd grade teacher in Kansas City, Missouri with a passion for creating engaging learning experiences for all learners. I love teaching children new ways of learning and adapting lessons to individual learning styles.
I have been passionate about teaching students my entire professional career. I graduated from the University of Tulsa with a Bachelor's of Arts in Art History and Arts Management and got my first full time job working at an art museum as an Education Assistant. I got to develop programs that could serve a very diverse audience. After a couple of years working there, I ended up moving to San Francisco to pursue a MA in Museum Studies. I gained more experience and education living out on the west coast but wanted to move back to the Midwest after graduating. I came to Kansas City after getting a job as a preschool teacher and was looking to get my teaching certificate when I discovered a new program in Kansas City called the Kansas City Teacher Residency. Through this program, I was placed under the mentor ship of a master teacher in an urban school district while also getting my teaching certificate and working towards my MA in Urban Education and Leadership from Park University. I was hired to teach 2nd grade full time after I got my teaching certificate in the district where I did my student teaching. Currently, I serve many leadership roles within my school including the lead 2nd grade teacher, the Science Curriculum lead in my building, and a trained EdCite coordinator for my district. Working with students with all kinds of abilities is my passion and I cannot imagine another profession for myself. I tutor in Elementary school Math, science, social studies, writing, early reading and phonics, and foundational reading skills. My favorite subject to tutor is reading because I was a struggling reader as an elementary school student. I want to help other struggling readers figure out what skills they need in order to read fluently. Outside of school, I love to walk my two dogs, travel home to Texas, read science fiction and nonfiction books, cook and bake, and watch Netflix.
