My interest in education, teaching, and linguistics was gradually shaped throughout my life by all the different ways in which I have experienced languages: as a learner, translator, a teacher, a teacher trainer, and a linguist. However, it was the times I spent living in England, Australia, an then in the USA that made me fully understand that language can be a means of conveying much more than just our thoughts. In fact, it also carries all the information about our background, education, beliefs and prejudices, and generally reflects the way we picture the world around us. Living in different countries and being submerged in the use of language soon urged me to change my way of thinking and brought to me the realization of how language and culture are so closely intertwined.

This particular experience was a very significant factor in my choice of education and applied linguistics as a discipline for my further studies as it naturally affected my views about the process of second language acquisition, and linked directly to TESOL and Applied Linguistics which I studied at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, leading to a Master's degree in TESOL and a Doctorate degree in Applied Linguistics.

During the time I spent at the university earning my Master's and Doctorate, I was involved in many other activities connected to my area of study. These included both work as a translator (to and from Arabic and English), involvement in cross-cultural seminars, and informal instruction in Arabic. This is when I found teaching to be particularly rewarding and inspiring, and I knew that gaining formal qualifications would utilize my knowledge, skills, and passion and bring me a step further to my planned career in teaching.

In order to combine my talents and abilities with my biggest passion, I have chosen to devote most of my life to studying foreign languages and cultures. Through travelling, reading and talking to people of other nationalities I have endeavored to better understand the world that surrounds me. Given my record of studies to date and other courses and achievements, I believe I have acquired experience and expertise that make the best of the opportunities afforded to me as a teacher and educator.

Now, as an experienced language educator and a linguist, even though I am quite versed in several other areas, I specialize in teaching English to students and help them develop a greater understanding of the language and develop their language skills through activities centered around listening, speaking, reading, and writing. I can teach students of any age, of any cultural or ethnic background, and in any learning environment and platform. I have continuously equipped myself with understanding of different backgrounds, customs, and cultures, and have worked to make my students feel comfortable about their learning experience and their successes. My most cherished moments are those when I watch my students grow confidence in their language skills and it is clear that I have made a difference in someone's future. Furthermore, through my excellent communication skills, I have been able to work successfully with students, tutors , teachers and other academic professionals.

My love for teaching derives from a passion for empowering others. I am adept in creating a comprehensive and well-rounded curriculum that meets different learning and teaching requirements and environments. I am able to act as a facilitator of powerful learning experiences, while allowing students to share their own passions and curiosities. I am familiar with many renowned educational philosophies, and committed to continually advancing as a teacher and an educator to bring forth dedication, skill, and the desire to positively impact the lives of my students. I have conducted needs analyses to determine the learning needs of students and have placed them in programs that best suited their needs. I have planned and implemented lessons that consisted of skill building techniques for reading, writing, listening, and speaking. I have conducted small group and individual lessons. I have both attended and conducted professional development workshops, seminars and conferences to both remain informed and inform others about the best techniques and strategies for English Language Learners. I have continuously utilized technology and online platforms and resources to enhance the learning experience of the new digital generation of students. I am familiar with several teaching styles and adapt my teaching style to suite the learning styles and strategies of my students and I have always viewed the student as the center of any learning and teaching situation. I have used most current teaching approaches of differentiated teaching techniques to meet the learning needs of individual students. As a teacher that strongly believes that teaching and assessment should go side by side, I have always used informal and formal assessments to monitor the progress of my students and adjust my teaching style, approaches, and techniques accordingly.
