I am a graduate of Tufts University, where I double majored in International Relations, with a concentration in International Security, and in Africana Studies. I also received a minor in Colonialism Studies. At my core I am an educator, enthusiast, and doer. Having primarily taught non-traditional learners, like adults and incarcerated people, I know the value and impact that education and learning can have; I am passionate about using knowledge and critical thinking to help individuals achieve their goals.
While an undergraduate, I worked with adult language learners, teaching ESL to individuals of many levels. I enhanced my practical experience by subsequently taking a course in Bilingual Education and a non-certificate multi-week ESL teaching course.
I also tutored through the Petey Greene program, which provides educational assistance to incarcerated people. While I primarily assisted students with their preparation for the HiSET exam (a GED equivalent), I always sought to address and expand upon a student's personal interest, and provided additional writing and social science support that was not geared toward the exam.
While I tutor a variety of subjects, I am most passionate about languages, literature, history, and the social sciences. My tutoring style focuses on an individualized approach, trying to utilize a student's personal interests to get them invested in whatever subject or assessment their educational path requires. I like to customize the prompts, examples, and questions when working with a student, particularly when it comes to standardized testing, so that my students understand its relevancy and are able to connect with the material.
When not working or tutoring, I enjoy reading, dancing, theater, hiking, exploring new places, and trying any and every kind of food!
