Hi! I'm Julia and I'm starting my 4th year of university at the University of Aberdeen in the autumn in my joint degree of English-History. I am also a former IB student (from Finland) and because I know how difficult learning can be and how tough it appears, I really want to help people out. Ever since I finished high school, I knew I wanted to help other students out because I remember struggling and wishing I could get some help.
In my free time I love to do art, particularly sketching, photography and love reading Classic and Romantic literature. I'm also developing quite a green thumb, so if anyone is also keen on discussing these kinds of things, I'm super happy to do that.
In high school, I was a tutor for new students entering the school and helping them out. After I graduated I continued to go back and help mentor IB students and give them tips and tricks on how to not only manage their school work and learn effectively, but how to take care of their mental health and physical well-being. At university, I have been in the photography society committee in the 3 years I have attended thus far and taught interested members how to use and get the most out of cameras. My teaching experience stems mainly from society involvement and reaching out to enthusiastic people who love to learn.
I cater my tutoring to the individual. Upon our first meeting, or by communicating via email or Whatsapp (whichever is easier for the student), I ask what mode of learning they seem to work best with and what exactly it is they want to achieve. After this, I simply go step-by-step with the student over what they want/need to understand. I also provide tips for how to learn/memorise effectively. I want to help people to work smarter, not harder.
Aside from History and Literature, I also help with structuring essays, English language skills and helping the student learn to give good presentations.
Additionally, with my background in IB, I can provide tutoring for EE's, IA's and TOK.
