I have loved reading and writing my entire life, and my passion for working with my peers on their writing grew in high school as my friends and I feverishly swapped application essays. My time at the University of Iowa as an English and Creative Writing and Sociology major only confirmed my love of editing and tutoring. I worked in my university's Writing Center and participated in the Writing Fellows program, wherein I was assigned to a different class each semester and assisted the students in each class with two major writing assignments. I also TA-ed a Sociology course my senior year.
Through all of these experiences, I have found that the collaborative give-and-take of discussing your writing with someone else is the best way to help an essay grow. I get so excited when the ideas start flowing in a tutoring session, and the tutor/tutee bounce back and forth off of each other, churning out some really great material in the process.
When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy writing short stories or getting lost in a good book. If I can tear myself away from fiction, I tend to be searching for good hiking trails or spending way too much money at the movie theater.
