I love tutoring! And, happily, my tutoring students love the way I tutor. I start by assessing a student's individual needs in the first several sessions, developing a learning approach tailored to that student. Whether in person or via an online service, I strive to make our experience enjoyable, creative and productive. I would love the opportunity to support you or your child as well!
I have had my own challenges to learning. I have quite a high IQ, 120, however, I also have moderate dyslexia. This combination has forced me to learn how to learn in creative ways, so as not to get discouraged, stay motivated and on track. I bring these skills to my students with a personal understanding of the struggles we can encounter in learning.
I currently tutor students ages 7-16. I can help my students with organizing and structuring, support with English related homework and writing assignments, using the experience to build good learning habits. First and foremost I teach my students how to write and find their voice as a writer. I help my students learn vocabulary, reading, grammar, editing, public speaking, and other essential people and life skills. My students usually find my support so invaluable that they wind up working with me for at least six months, with great improvement in their grades and skill levels. Please read testimonials from my students and other peers on my Facebook Tutoring Page:
Some examples: My current high school student is learning English as a second language and preparing for SAT tests. We use her SAT study book to read and practice answering the questions. I also help her with her homework assignments, practice grammar lessons, and sentence structuring. For my elementary school students who need help with comprehension, reading, and writing, I support them with their homework assignments, structuring and writing essays, reading and improving their study habits. I aid my students in understanding complex concepts and historical context. Over the summer, based on their needs and their parents' requests, I use grade-related workbooks in English grammar, writing and reading comprehension.
I am also a professional writer and editor. My talent for writing started in high school, where I was the editor of our school paper. I have written, edited, designed and published three well-reviewed books currently available on Amazon. My professional background also includes: twenty years of post-college training in professional coaching, time management, goal setting, and communications skills learned through countless professional seminars, non-profit work, and leadership training. I privately taught motivational classes in these subjects and have coached adults in the SF Bay Area for 25 years. I am now semi-retired and started tutoring children. I want to pass on these life skills to my students as they are our future.
If you are looking for a tutor who will listen, encourage and help your child or teen to achieve his or her scholastic goals, please contact me. I am looking forward to discovering the best ways to help you or your child be successful!
