I have recently completed a PhD in Renaissance literature at the University of St Andrews, and I tutor in the English department there. Previously I worked for a number of years in the publishing industry and as a freelance writer and tutor in Oxford. I hold a BA in English & American Literature from the Arthur Miller Centre at the University of East Anglia (First-Class Honours) and an MA in Shakespeare Studies from the University of St Andrews (Distinction). I enjoy hiking and tennis, and am a keen long-distance runner.
I have tutored in English and American literature at GCSE, A-level & Undergraduate levels. My tutoring approach varies widely from case to case: every student is different in both ability and personality, and deserves to be treated as an individual. However, in general I endeavour to develop a rapport with the student so that the sessions can be relaxed and enjoyable for them, which tends to make the student more motivated and each session more productive. In terms of feedback, I aim to strike a balance between rigorousness and encouragement, again depending very much on the temperament of the student in question.
