You know when you're stuck and you've worked for hours trying to make sense of things and it just...doesn't work? You're frustrated, feel like you can't, and there's no point? I've been there. I've also gotten out of there. And you can and will get out of there too. I'd love to guide you out.

I am a graduate of CSUEB with a B.S. in cell and molecular biology. I am also currently a graduate student at the same university, pursuing my Master of Science degree! I am researching a transcription factor important for the immune system of a funny looking pink sea slug.

During my studies, I discovered I love working with my peers to learn the class concepts. The way faces would light up when concepts were understood is just heartwarming. I couldn't get enough of it so I applied to be a tutor for a program that serves undergrads with disabilities at my university. I've been working as an official tutor for over a year (having tutored friends and peers before that) I tutor my students in biology and chemistry. Though it's the least requested class, I love tutoring immunology the most. Every week my students progress, and their faces light up. Not to say there aren't challenges in learning, it's never completely smooth. But we work through every single bump. It's the bumps that we really learn from anyway.

The best part is that any student can get over the bumps, and often times we just don't know how. My philosophy is that we just need guidance to see how the concepts all connect. As a tutor, it is my duty to guide students into seeing those connections. They're not always easy to see! I hope to be a fresh perspective on your materials.

I also have experience as an academic coach. I have found that tutoring is best when paired with a little bit of coaching- how to study, breaking down study guides, how to organize time to work the concepts we discussed, homework etc. There's more to learning than just memorizing material and concepts!

When I'm not learning or tutoring, I like to read (reading about viruses currently), tend my plants (succulents rule), do photography, hike, marvel at how awesome cephalopods are, make some kind of craft (recently sewed a batman apron) and honestly, sometimes chill and do nothing. It prepares me for tutoring and my own learning.
