I was born to two musician parents, so it was not surprising that I attended Orange County School of the Arts to study music, dance, and theater in high school. As a full-scholarship student, I went to Washington and Lee University for undergrad and graduated with a BA in Music and English double major with a minor in Theater. With a huge turn of events (as life goes), I went through a Post-Bacc Pre-Med program and now I am a fourth-year medical student about to graduate in May 2022!
While preparing for medical school and before I graduated college, I began teaching at a tutoring center to help students in English, Science, and Math. I enjoyed teaching ACT classes in English and Science during the summer, as I saw my students every day and got to know them fairly well. I also assisted some high school students with their college application essays and counseled them through the entire application process.
After entering medical school, I began privately tutoring students in the MCAT, as well as advising pre-med students throughout the medical school application process. I specialize in breaking down complex science passages using an interactive teaching method that focuses upon helping the student discover how to think critically, rather than just memorizing facts. With my background as an English major, I have developed a personalized CARS approach that takes each student's strengths and weaknesses into consideration, to produce a strategy that will maximize accuracy without sacrificing timing. I also take the time during the first tutoring session to get to know each student's unique background and time constraints, suggest the best resources (and how best to utilize them), and personalize a study schedule that is not only effective but efficient. In addition, I have helped students revise their personal statements, and when they receive interview invitations, I have prepared my students for both traditional and Multiple Mini Interviews, and more recently, for video online interviews post-COVID.
Although my current career is a science-centered one, I have a deep appreciation for the arts and truly believe that a great scientist is often a great artist as well. I am passionate about helping the next generation of leaders to achieve their goals, especially getting into the college of their dreams. I will never stop learning, and I hope to instill this same love of learning and curiosity in my students.
For fun (with what little spare time I am allotted), I like to watch movies or TV shows, do something active, and spend quality time with my pup!
