I work as a tech with an ophthalmology practice and keep my teaching connections via tutoring. I graduated from UMASS with a Master's in Education with the goal in
mind to teach middle school science. While I did that for about eight years, I then moved on to teach English, social studies, and math as well. Tutoring programs to help build skills in grammar and writing for grades 4 to 7 are areas I have especially
worked with in recent years. I have recently taught math to second and third graders in Coral Springs, Florida for the year. I taught sixth grade math in Fairfax City, Virginia and with sixth graders in Massachusetts. In Montessori elementary schools, I have taught the range of students from grades four to six and helped
prepare them for taking Algebra 1 as they move into middle school. Other tutoring work I have done in Virginia and Florida includes preparation for the SAT and ACT working on critical reading and vocabulary, in addition to practice in writing
essays. I taught with the Community College of Denver with the Developmental English program in writing and composition. Prior to that experience, I taught with an ESL
program at a community college in Virginia with students from many nationalities. I became involved with inLingua in South Florida where I have done individualized tutoring in conversational English practice. My goal in teaching has always been to weave the connections and make learning fun and inspiring. I start with an essential question and build a plan with active student centered learning. Summing up what has been accomplished and naming
the next steps for practice are important in ending any tutoring session. Swimming, kayaking, biking and writing stories are some of my interests.
