I strongly believe that writing is a mode of making meaning in the world. I also believe that reading is a medium for making connections to, and understanding the world as others perceive and articulate it. We do not read and write in isolation; instead we make connections to our experiences and our social interactions. For this reason, I believe collaborative and constructive teaching and learning are two of the most conducive pedagogies in the English classroom. As a teacher, I feel I am responsible for fostering personal growth and development to the best of my abilities to as many students as possible. I will do this by using literacy (reading, writing, listening, viewing and speaking) as my tool and inquiry models and critical literacy as my methods of teaching. I fully agree with the importance of creating instruction that meets the needs of my individual students and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to see how this can be applied through one-to-one tutoring.
