I am a graduate of the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!). I received my Bachelor's Degree in Family and Human Services within the college of education and have been working with students and at risk youth for 8 years now. After getting accepted into Teach For America I packed up my car and drove down to Houston Texas where I have lived for about 5 years. In this time I have taught both 2nd and 3rd grade ESL classes, and currently work as a Reading Interventionist in a high school, with students who are reading significantly below grade level. I am most passionate about tutoring English and foundational reading skills/phonics because I firmly believe every person deserves the best quality of life which has strong ties to education. Not being able to read/comprehend well impacts all facets of learning. Knowledge is power and students have the right to be as powerful as possible without anyone limiting them. I have a lot of fun with my students of all ages. I've learned that building relationships is one of the most important things you can do with your students as it impacts effort levels and content mastery and it's important for students to know you care about them. Every student learns differently and I love finding creative ways to help students connect with a subject/skill. In my free time I enjoy lifting weights, running, dancing, improving my Spanish and traveling.
