A tutor isn't just someone that helps a student navigate their material, but helps them navigate any personal hurdles that may come in the way too.
I am passionate about tutoring because the experience shared by both I and the individual I work with, carries beyond just the material. These experiences are long lasting and ways for us to make change in our communities as well as ourselves.
One of my favorite experiences was working with an individual that had to speak regarding a traumatic incident in their life that changed them. To work with them and see how far they came from not being able to speak, to channeling their emotions so that the audience could relate, was a powerful memory for me.
I approach my work with a very simple philosophy; there are hurdles, let's jump over them. At some point or another, it might get difficult, so we train and jump higher. At times students have struggled with a concept or explanation, and so either the idea is presented differently or the example is changed. Sooner or later, the hurdle passes.
I work with clients on a variety of subjects from early academic stages up to and at the collegiate level. I love working with students on writing, public speaking, as well as algebra-based mathematics.
Students often feel discouraged or odd asking for a tutor or help, but one thing I always tell myself and now to my clients: "You are not a drop in the ocean, you are the entire ocean in a drop." - Rumi
There's no need to worry when it comes to seeking a tutor or guide. It might just be what helps unlock the ocean in you.
