I believe that every child is a unique individual who needs a safe, caring and stimulating environment to learn. I believe that it is my job to create this atmosphere so that academic, social, and emotional growth can occur. I do not take this responsibility lightly. The last 12 years in education have cemented the need for relationships, facilitation and flexibility in order to bring out the full potential of my students.
Relationships open doors like very few things can. I strive to create personal relationships with each of my students in an effort to soak in what makes them unique and become their biggest cheerleader as they grow while in my care. I seek professional relationships with parents, as I partner with them in growing their student's intelligence and life skills. I hold fast to co-workers and mentors who help me maintain a high level of standards and positivity that others outside of teaching just don't understand.
As a facilitator I guide my students towards knowledge, following their lead and providing them a safe place to take risks, learn from failures and move forward. Every effort is made to use my knowledge of students to provide opportunities to study things that are meaningful and relevant to their lives and interests. As a facilitator my goal is to guide students into authentic learning situations that promote discovery and growth.
Flexible situations arise endlessly in the classroom; however, planned flexibility is vital to creating lifelong learners. Planning for different learning paths, assessment mediums, communications and groups to name a few, allows for each student to be taught in a way that is authentic to them, tapping into their full potential and creating willing learners.
Relationships, facilitation and flexibility have become cornerstones in how my classroom is run and with these foundations I plan to lead many students in reaching their full potential.
