I would like to state first, before anything else, that while I am best with English. I am also good at and qualified to tutor the Math portion of the SATs and am comfortable with doing so. My students have been satisfied with my teaching methods for both English and the Math SAT.

I am passionate about helping students because it is something I have been working towards my whole life. From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a teacher, and I worked hard to set a foundation from which I could make that happen. I went to the University of Durham to get my Bachelor of Arts degree in English Teaching, and I graduated in December of 2017 with all of the knowledge I gained from my relevant coursework. In college, I tutored two students as a fellow student, and I gained experience with teaching two mini-lessons.

As one would guess from my degree, almost all of the subjects I tutor have to deal with English. I am qualified to tutor in SAT and ACT English subjects; AP English; college, high school, and middle school English; and essay editing and grammar. A more specific lists of subjects can be found in my profile. I enjoy all English, but in terms of tutoring, I have the most fun editing essays. Throughout my academic career, I have written many papers, so I am very familiar with what to look out for to strengthen them. It makes me happy when I give suggestions to people in areas to improve on and they understand what I say and end up getting a better grade for it.

For my teaching philosophy, I believe that an educator must be capable of passing on the knowledge of their discipline to students. In addition, an educator must value education in and of itself. What I mean by the first statement is that the focus should always be on the student and what the student is getting out of their learning experience. If they are having trouble keeping up with a lesson, then the responsibility lies with the teacher to reach the student instead of blaming the problem on the student. Students must come first. So, for me, students all have the ability to succeed to the highest level; I am merely here to help achieve that goal.

Finally, outside of academia, I am an avid reader. For leisure reading I enjoy young adult fiction and romance, but recently I have been reading manga more than anything else. I love it. In addition, I enjoy listening to music and singing along. Some of my favorite genres include indie, alternative, and K-pop. In fact, I am slowly learning Korean so that I can understand and sing along to some of my favorite songs. Lastly, I enjoy petting, cuddling, and playing with my cat. His name is Gizmo and he is adorable.
