Hi there, I'm Jared. I've been teaching for the past 15 years and spent the last 13 of them working in the field of Special Education. In that time, I've worked mainly with middle school students (grades 5-8) across a variety of subjects including English/Language Arts, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Earth Science, Physical Science, World Geography, Ancient Civilizations, and World History. In addition, I have provided after-school tutoring in individual or small group settings for students who require extra support.
In addition to getting to learn the curricula in multiple content areas, I think that what I enjoy most about my job is having the opportunity to work closely with individual students and finding ways to make the subject matter accessible and motivating to each unique learner. I'm a firm believer that motivation is the key to learning and that one size never fits all in education, so I always strive to personalize my instruction and tailor it to a student's interests whenever possible. The moments that I find most meaningful in my teaching, and the ones when I feel most effective, are often spent working one-on-one with a student and helping him or her find success where he or she once struggled, which is why I find tutoring so fulfilling.
