I have a passionate commitment to student development and the learning experience. I believe in designing challenging, enriching, and innovative activities that address the diverse needs of students. I affirm that information needs to be presented in a variety of ways, while emphasizing the relevance of class material to the world beyond the classroom. My ideal classroom environment embraces differentiated instruction, cooperative learning, and interactive learning. In addition, I believe that student motivation can be fostered through whole group learning and student-centered learning, along with the integration of multicultural awareness.
I promote student learning and achievement by engaging students in the process of knowledge acquisition. My background in collaborative research allows me to model behaviors that are integral to completing team-based tasks. I know that when students are encouraged to work together in order to accomplish a specific goal they are naturally imbued with a sense of ownership. Indeed, it is imperative to enable the students themselves to model the behavior of individuals in real-world settings. This type of paradigm excites students and allows them to focus on their individual strengths while learning to work cooperatively with others.
Student achievement is promoted when the students are interested and their passion for learning is ignited. They then need to have a solid base upon which to build their knowledge; hence, a strong foundation in the content area is necessary. In order to encourage students to continue to grow one must continually motivate them by focusing on their successes and their strengths. In sum, students must be interested, supported via a variety of scaffolding techniques, and constantly challenged by that which is required of them. I have knowledge in subjects such as reading, math, science, and I feel comfortable tutoring test prep such as the SSAT exam.
