I have followed my dreams of becoming an Historian and I received my Ph.D. in History from the University of Georgia in 2017, my M.A. in Public History and Historical Archaeology from the University of South Carolina in 2008, and a dual B.A. in History and Anthropology from San Francisco State in 2005. I had started at the Community College level and graduated in 2003 from Napa Valley College with two A.A. degrees.
When I was a child, my grandfather would ask me to read the road signs to him while we were driving. I soon figured out that he could not read. At first I was embarrassed, but then he explained to me that they only had one teacher in his Guadalajara mountain village, La Hacienda de Cuatlan. When my grandfather was in the third grade, that teacher was murdered by a jealous husband. No one else ever arrived to continue the education of the children who resided in that ejido. My grandfather's story has instilled in me the belief that all people have the right to education, regardless of their age, ethnicity, gender identity, or socio-economic situation.
Through my position as a Varsity Tutor and Adjunct Instructor at Athens Technical College, I create a learning environment that is conducive for every student to acquire the necessary tools for understanding how historical actions have created our modern world.
