I completed my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, OK, and I am currently pursuing my Masters in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. As a result of over four years of engineering, I do feel most comfortable teaching math subjects, but I'm not entirely math-focused. I played piano intently all through high school, going so far as to study piano performance for a year in undergrad. Thanks to a wonderfully lucky string of English teachers throughout my studies, I have developed a real love of reading and writing, too. If the subjects I offer to tutor seem unusually widespread, that is why. I have developed a real love of learning new things, which I hope to impart to anyone I get to work with.
In the middle of all my schooling, I also worked as a glassblowing instructor for 6 years, so I have had a lot of time to develop my teaching style in a topic that is very esoteric and abstract, which has helped me immensely in teaching subjects like math that can feel hopelessly abstract to a lot of people. I believe strongly in the importance of education, and I believe even stronger in the idea that it should be enjoyable. In my experience, enjoyment comes from real understanding and connection with the material--not just being able to go through the motions. My ultimate hope in tutoring is to impart that same love of learning and thirst for knowledge in the people I work with. I believe that if a person has that, they can become a truly independent learner, and that is a valuable skill that will help in every part of life.
In my free time, I'm a hopeless nerd. When I'm not reading or gaming, I'm learning about weird things like the forging techniques of Japanese blade smiths or how to dry-age a steak in your own refrigerator.
