I am currently employed by the Monroe School District, where I am a Special Education Teacher at Masuk High School. Prior to that I was a Special Education in Bridgeport, CT in a self-contained classroom. I have a bachelors degree in English Literature and a Certification and Masters Degree in Special Education. In addition, I am recently completed the certification in the Educational Leadership program at Sacred Heart University. As of April 2017 I became fully certified in Educational Leadership with an Initial Administrator license.
I am well versed at implementing Response to Intervention in the district. I have the ability to lead by example and help both teachers and students make improvements using research based curriculum and interventions. I have experience creating a master schedule for the special education teachers at Bridgeport Learning Center. In addition, I serve in a supervisory role for educational assistants/therapeutic support facilitators. I collaborate with teams of professionals throughout the district to help to meet the needs of at risk students.
I believe in Positive Behavior Supports and I am part of the PBIS team at Bridgeport Learning Center. It is crucial to include PBIS supports throughout school settings to increase positive student behaviors and raise the achievement of all students. I have also been given the opportunity to mentor three of the newly hired teachers in the past two years; we worked together to overcome student issues, classroom management struggles and appropriate data collection to improve student performance in their classrooms. I am also an active member of many of the committees at Bridgeport Learning center: PBIS, RULER, and the creation and implementation of the School Improvement Plan.
I possess excellent interpersonal, communication and time management skills, which are needed to hold this type of position. I have the ability to multitask, attend school functions and meet with the parents and guardians of the students when necessary. I also have the ability to participate in activities for the community and to help to get students involved in community work.
In addition, I believe all students can learn and it is crucial to have high expectations. The achievement gap will not narrow if students of color are not afforded the same educational opportunities as their white counterparts. As the Special Education Teacher I will continue to create a school culture that allows students and staff to excel to their fullest extent. Each student is entitled to a free and appropriate individualized education and I plan to see that vision come to fruition during my time there.
