I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Hartford in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in Biology. As a senior, I received the award for High Achievement in Molecular Biology from my University and completed an independent research study on the monoclonal antibodies Trastuzumab and Nivolumab in the treatment of HER2-positive breast cancer and advanced melanoma, respectively. I have worked in healthcare as a medical scribe for two years since graduation in preparation for medical school. In June of 2017, I completed the MCAT and scored in the 97th percentile on the Biology and Biochemistry section.
I chose to become a tutor because education is the foundation to success, and I want to prepare my students for excellence in whatever endeavor they choose to undertake. Science can be an obstacle for STEM and non-STEM students alike, but I firmly believe any individual is capable of conquering these fascinating topics with dedication and the right instruction. I believe a strong understanding of STEM topics will continue to become increasingly important as we continue to integrate technology into our occupations and everyday lives. Every student is different, and that is why I tailor my approach to each person's strengths and goals. My teaching method emphasizes conceptual understanding and critical thinking as opposed to memorization so students are able to apply what they learn in our tutoring sessions to the problems they face on exams and in class.
