I graduated from Pomona College in 2014 with a BA in English. As a senior, I worked as an intern with a freshman writing seminar, providing one-on-one tutoring, peer review, and coaching to freshman on college-level essay writing.
In 2010, I graduated from Westwood High School in Austin, Texas with an IB diploma. I earned an A on my Extended Essay and also completed 6 AP exams, scoring a 5 on every one of them. As a senior in high school, I spent an hour every morning before school with a 5th grade class, tutoring some students one-on-one and also helping out with general classroom activities.
Since graduating from Pomona, I have continued to seek writing-based work. In 2014, I worked as an editorial assistant for Dr. Arden Reed as he put the finishing touches on his book manuscript, Slow Art. I then worked as a typographical and disability accommodation assistant for another academic, Dr. Anna Mollow, as she finished up her dissertation, published several articles in her field, and regularly corresponded with colleagues. Finally, in 2016, I worked as a copy writer and editor for Risas y Sonrisas Spanish Program for Kids, streamlining all content on the website, standardizing product descriptions, and helping out the owner with various other writing, proofreading, and editing tasks.
Throughout this time, I have also traveled extensively. Soon after graduating in 2014, I completed a three-month road trip around the US, visiting 27 states. In the summer of 2015, I through-hiked the John Muir Trail, covering about 240 miles over 26 days through the Sierra Nevada backcountry. With my partner Michelle, I traveled in central Mexico during the first half of 2016. Over these six months, we completed five work-exchange volunteer projects for between 2 and 5 weeks each. We lived full-time with each host, immersing ourselves in their projects and improving our Spanish. Finally, in January 2017, we set off around the US, visiting 30 states and completing another 5 work-exchange projects that included helping out at a llama and alpaca rescue ranch, an off-grid yoga retreat, an urban organic farm, and a raw milk cheese dairy.
Now that I have relocated to the Denver area, I'm excited to begin working with students again. In addition to tutoring through Varsity Tutors, I will be working as an after-school chess teacher at local elementary schools. I really look forward to meeting and working with students of all ages, and helping them find clarity and confidence in writing, Spanish, history, or simple math. Thanks for reading; I look forward to meeting you.
