Growing up in Ghana, I always paid close attention to the health needs in my community and I dreamt of being a physician - i know, you are thinking, what has this to do with being a tutor? Well, it has everything to with it - I always tell many that i am blessed and a lucky one because coming from a 3rd world where a man is considered to be superior to me because of an extra X chromosome - and I'm lucky because i was blessed with the gift of education - with love and support from my late- grand uncle and my late aunt who passed away 3years ago - I found solace in my books - and i learnt that the true meaning of the saying that knowledge is power - i realized that with knowledge and education, i will be able to impact my community in a meaningful way by becoming a physician in the future and being a physician, mades you first and foremost a teacher - to impact knowledge leading to change in the minds and eventually the individual and their community as well as our global village .
Yes, i understood why my aunt always urged me to go on and go as far as i can go and in so doing, and in my quest - i realized that education is part and parcel of our society and the path i have chosen and that - as long as i here - it is my chosen and heartfelt dream - to impact change in all the lives i cross paths with - and the most important aspect of that goal is to learn, teach and learn because education is only attained when knowledge acquired leads to a change in behavior and character.
I am not perfect but i strive to be the best i can be - I am loyal, determined, team player with resilient soul who loves to learn and teach - thus i believe that with the knowledge acquire through my career journey will come in handy during our tutoring schedules - having taught my mates in undergrad as well as patients of different ages, socioeconomic status during my clinical clerkship and working as an RN has given me the opportunity of teaching in both formal and informal sessions and also learned to adapt to each individual to meet their needs and goals.
Life experiences both great, small and tragic has gotten me to this far, and I am grateful for the lessons because it has gotten me where I am now. I know with all my heart that I am ready to dive head first into my profession, continuing to expand my skills and work closely with a variety of students helping them be the best they can be and excel in their academic endeavors.
