I hold a Master of Arts in Teaching Russian from Indiana University, along with complementary credit hours to satisfy a double major in English and Spanish. I have enjoyed putting my language skills to use in seemingly unrelated areas: translating nuclear reactor safety documents, interpreting for U.S. scientists in Russia, doing court interpreting in Spanish, teaching Spanish at various universities from Hawaii to Massachusetts and recently teaching ESL. Through it all I have enjoyed teaching others how to take something foreign and see the connections to their own language. I especially believe that good pronunciation and intonation is essential in mastering a language and to this end employ songs, skits and role plays in all my classes. Singing and reciting aloud really help to wire a new behavior into your neural circuity. In my free time I love to dance, hike and learn a new language -Farsi!
