I first discovered tutoring when I was in high school. I was placed in a class that was hand selected to become peer mentors with special education students. Through this class, I was paired with a fellow student with special needs, and I accompanied this student to different General Ed classes to help him become successful. Many days I had to break down concepts that the teacher delivered on a larger scale. On a few occasions, I had to create my own lesson to help bridge the gap between what he understood and what he needed to achieve. It was after this class that I realized that I had a desire for teaching.

In college, I tutored an older gentleman at the local library to help prepare him for his GED test. It was in working one-on-one with this individual that I discovered my love for breaking down difficult concepts and teaching someone skills that they thought were impossible. Often times, the way the workbook explained a problem didnt make sense to him. Instead, I had to learn to ask questions, consider other perspectives, and deliver the material in multiple ways. I soon learned that I have a passion and talent for teaching others.

Over the years, I have always come back to tutoring in some form or fashion. I have worked in the homes of children with special needs. It was with this job that I was able to work with their physical therapists and speech pathologist to help them reach major milestones in their life. I have also worked with struggling middle school readers to bring them back to grade level, after falling two or more grade levels below. Additionally, I have worked with gifted children to help them excel in both reading and writing in the ELA classroom.
I believe in education, and I believe in a students ability to work hard, master difficult concepts, and become confident in their own skills. I work diligently to deliver these things in my work daily.
