I am a recent college graduate with a bachelor's degree in social work and Spanish and I have been privileged to study abroad for nine months in Argentina. Throughout this trip I traveled to six South American countries, fought, yet persisted in learning Spanish and grew both culturally and personally. As a social work intern at Decatur Youth Services, I worked with at-risk-youth in Decatur, AL. In this placement I learned how to build rapport with clients (students) and parents, effectively tutor middle school and high school aged children, address difficult situations, utilize problem solving strategies, and recognized the importance of prioritizing and active listening. In my placement at the Hospice of North Alabama I was able to work with the geriatric population and was educated on the importance of empathy, patience, and clear communication. In the various leadership positions I held in college I have gained skills in time-management, communication, organization, team work, and problem solving. I am a proponent for positive work environments that value team work and provide avenues where I can harness and develop new skills.
