Teaching, I think, has always come naturally to me. I find pleasure, not merely in teaching a subject or an academic skill, but in encouraging an appetite or curiosity for knowledge n a child. Perhaps, my chief aim is to eliminate the common sense of dread many kids feel about school at a young age. In order to combat this ubiquitous malaise, I employ my patience with a genuine sense of passion and exuberance about learning in order to make my time as an instructor close to as fun and exciting as possible.
I understand well the diversity of learning styles among children. Thus, I take time to understand a child in order to teach the material in the most effective way possible. I believe that developing a good rapport with students is essential in order to truly teach something well. My end goal is helping a student achieve mastery in a subject they struggled with while also promoting a healthy and positive relationship to learning that lasts throughout their lives.
I have been teaching in various capacities for the past ten years. I have worked as a classroom teacher and been the head of a after school tutoring program. While I have worked with kids anywhere from kindergarteners to high school students, I find that I am most effective with students ages 7-12. It is here, during these crucial ages of learning that have made the most difference.
